BioBead

University of Washington

SymbioSoil is developing BioBead, a biodegradable hydrogel that delivers living microbial consortia (nitrogen-fixing bacteria, phosphorus-solubilizing bacteria, and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi) directly to the plant root zone. Built to address soil dysbiosis at its root, BioBead protects microbes from washout, extends their activity in the rhizosphere, and rebuilds the biological foundation that crops depend on. Validated in greenhouse and field pilots with measurable yield and soil health gains, BioBead offers organic and regenerative growers a science-backed tool for restoring soil function and enhancing crop productivity.
